Autism Resources

Navigating the Autism journey is no small feat, but guess what? Your best resource is right at your fingertips – your community. Joining a family chat group is like unlocking a support system that's tailor-made for you. In this community, you'll find individuals who've walked the same path, facing challenges head-on. Some have already been through what you're experiencing now, armed with genuine suggestions and practical advice. It's like having a collective wisdom bank at your disposal. While the autism journey is undeniably incredible, it can also feel isolating. Connecting with others can make a real difference in how you advocate for your child. It's a chance to draw on strength you may not have realized you possess.

Below are a few resources for you to tap into. At Our Pieces, we're all about empowering parents and guardians by sharing information and, most importantly, supporting each other. Because together, we've got this. 💙 Do you have more gems to share? Drop me a message at raquel@ourpieces.ca.

A mobile app designed specifically for kids with ASD and other exceptionalities

A child’s behaviours, specifically a child with exceptionalities who tends towards gestures and visual prompts, tell a story about what the child is trying to communicate. The Our Pieces app facilitates the gathering, sharing, and analysis of first-hand information about children with autism spectrum disorder and other neurological differences and learning exceptionalities.

An interactive and easy-to-use mobile application that collects and stores the details of eating habits, sleep patterns, daily classroom routines and learning schedules, IEP goals, activities, and emotional regulation from a holistic point of view to identify the patterns and triggers that complicate day-to-day life for children with ASD and their caregivers. Track behaviours down to the minute and gain insight into their occurrences and frequency to assist in identifying the patterns and triggers of the operationally defined behaviours for children with exceptionalities to assist their caregivers, teachers, IBI providers, and school in identifying the patterns associated with the identifying behaviour.

Our online platform provides a way for parents, educators, and support persons to enter information about the child throughout the day, in a quick and simple interface with lots of preformatted options that facilitate communications between parents and professionals to work together as an interdisciplinary team. Over time, the consolidated, accumulated information will assist those living and working with people on the autism spectrum to manage the child’s conditions and use this empirical data to better understand and benefit the child, building useful strategies for success throughout their lives.

Use Our Pieces to identify meaningful patterns and gain invaluable insights to help children and individuals living with a neurological difference. For instance, if a child has set a goal with their parents and teacher to take off their outdoor shoes and change into their indoor shoes upon arrival at school every day for the following week, what behaviours preceded the achievements of completing the task or hindered the accomplishment when the task was not completed? The precursors for success can be identified in order to maximize the potential outcomes to accomplish the goal.

Our Pieces is currently designed specifically for children on the autism spectrum, but it is also applicable to other types of children with exceptionalities, like ADHD, Down Syndrome, Global/ Developmental Delay, and various genetic and neurological conditions. Our Pieces is also an effective tool for youth and adults that attend day programs, or home-based, clinic-based care.

Our Pieces is currently available in English with Google Translation Services integrated to enable you to use the application in any language currently supported by Google.
